Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, is a bustling city
with approx. 800.000 inhabitants. Few cities in the world
have a historic centre as large and untouched as here and
you will find few cities where water is as predominant as it
is in Amsterdam.
We will see Amsterdam from the water during a canal cruise
of 2 hours. While gliding through the city and into the
harbour, you will see merchant’s mansions, churches and
warehouses dating from the 17th century.
The cruise will end at the famous Rijksmuseum, where
you will see the world famous collection of Rembrandts
paintings such as the Jewish bride, the syndics of the
Amsterdam draper’s guild and Rembrandt’s most famous
painting, the Night watch.
Private Home and Garden Tour
Date: Saturday, 13 June
Time: Saturday, 14.00–18.00
Price: Euro (€) 63
This is a walking tour with an art historian guide. We will
begin by walking along the Golden Bend of Herengracht
towards the private Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis. This double
mansion has 4 beautiful furnished period rooms dating from
the 18th–19th century, 17th century paintings and family
porcelain. In the large souterrain with conservatory we can
as a private group have coffee or tea. After the break we
visit 3 large canal house gardens, that of Geelvinck plus the
private neighbouring garden. You get all the information
about the Dutch garden history and the 17th century
Tulpomania.
Via Herengracht we walk towards the flower market and
visit one of the most original coach houses, Restaurant
Tuynhuys of Amsterdam, originally belonging to the best
house of the Herengracht 475. We will also look at 3
gardens and other coach house facades. We may sit on
the terrace and you will get information about the gable
architecture.
Via Singel we walk to Medieval Begijnhof. This private
picturesque courtyard contains about 50 canal houses
with cottage gardens with flowering bulbs including the
oldest wooden house of Amsterdam and a church from the
15th century. Finally we will visit an example of a private
former almshouse “C.Reiniershofje” with pond garden on
Keizersgracht.

The Jewish
Quarter and Diamond Factory
Date: Sunday, 14 June
Time: 14.00–18.00
Price: Euro (€) 48

This walking tour takes you through the former Jewish
quarter with its large synagogues and characteristic street
markets. Visit the Portuguese Synagogue, which was, after
construction in 1675, the largest Jewish building in the
world at the time.
At the end of the 16th century a lot of Jews
escaped to Amsterdam, bringing with
them the art of diamond polishing. Visit
the diamond factory of Gassan, which
is located in this area and founded in
1878 as the first steam-driven diamond
cutter. You will visit the diamond
grindery where you can admire how
the craftsmen work on the rough stones,
to obtain the famous brilliants.
As a surprise, everyone of the group will receive a glass of champagne, with something glimmering on the bottom.
But there will only be one person (or more, depending on the group size) so lucky as to have a real diamond in their
glass. An expert will judge every glass to find the winners.
Museum Tour

Time: 09.00–13.00

We start the day with a small city tour by private coach
where you will receive some background information about
the city and the museums you will visit. Our first stop is the
Rembrandthuis.
Rembrandthuis
The famous Rembrandthuis, which is the house where
Rembrandt lived from 1639 until 1659, is now the home of
a large collections of his etchings and the very place where
most of them where made. It also has a large collection of
paintings of people who inspired him, like Pieter Lastman.
After approximately 1 hour, we will leave the Rembrandthuis
and continue to the Van Gogh museum by coach with
our guide(s).
Van Gogh
The museum houses about 200 paintings and 550 sketches
showing Van Gogh in all his moods. These combined with
hundreds of letters by Van Gogh to his brother Theo, and
selected works by his friends and contemporaries, form the
core of the museum’s collection.
Zaanse Schans, Volendam en Marken

This excursion takes you north of Amsterdam, to the edge
of the Zaan river, where you visit the windmill village
‘de Zaanse Schans’, with its characteristic green wooden
houses. On the turn of the 18th century this district was an
industrial area with approximately 700 windmills in use. In
this day and age there are only five left. We will pay a visit
to a windmill and a wooden shoe factory.
We continue our tour to Volendam, an old picturesque
village on the shore of the former “Zuiderzee”. We will have
lunch in a nice traditional restaurant and you will have time
to stroll around the harbour.
We will then continue to Marken by boat. This small
town is situated on a former island and is located near the
Jssellake. It is a lovely place to visit and has many special
features such as houses on pillars, the traditional green
painted houses and folkloristic customs and clothing. Walk
along the small bridges and little alleys and admire the
historic houses.
